The Friday Five

I'm stealing this idea from The Rotten Correspondent. If you haven't checked out her blog, what the hell are you waiting for? She's brilliantly funny, and she does this list thingy on Thursdays. So, being ambitious, I'm trying out a Friday Five, instead of a Thursday Three.

After my grumpy post about advertising this week, I thought we could use a little self-affirmation. Here are Five Things I like about myself....*note: these are not five things other people necessarily like about me!

  1. I can cook, and cook well, with whatever happens to be on hand. I inherited this trait from my mom.

  2. I may be overweight, but I can also lift fifty pounds above my head and hold it there for more than a minute. My child weighs almost forty pounds, and I can hold her up there for a while! Don't ask why I would choose to do this.

  3. I care. A lot. About everyone and everything. Sometimes this makes me cry and pisses other people off, but I think it makes me a better person.

  4. I'm intelligent. This gets me into trouble sometimes, usually with other people who don't care how smart I am.

  5. I am a smart ass. It's fun. Try it sometime, I guarantee endless hours of amusement.

Okay, those are my five, and just like The Rotten Correspondent, I am encouraging you to post five things you like about yourself in the comments section. Maybe next week we'll try things we don't like about ourselves. Or not.

Mmmm, ok, this was harder than I thought it would be. It really makes one stop and look at ones self, which is something I think we should do on a regular basis. Good job on this one Jen

1.I like that I have common sense. It has been a very useful tool for me. I’ll also note that I have no patience for those who don’t have it.
2.I’m very sentimental
3.I’m not afraid to laugh out loud
4.I treat everyone equally and with respect. Unless of course they disrespect me.
5.I’m curious

Tagdeer, I loved your answers, and yes, you are a very lucky person, but I expected more from such an insightful soul.

Auntie Barbie, I think taqdeer was taking my advice about being a smartass to heart. LOL. Good list! And I know from experience you're not afraid to laugh out loud.

OK...here goes.

1. I'm a hell of a listener...better than most.
2. I'm quite dedicated. Ask my friends.
3. I care about people...more than I care about myself. Some may call that a detriment.
4. I'm reasonably good at what I do for a living...which some may describe as delivering bad news to people.
5. I'm even tempered. That's something I couldn't always claim...so that's a big accomplishment for me.

Not the most exciting list in the world. Oh well...

This is always the most difficult thing to do. 5 things that you like about yourself. Hmmm...

Ok... here goes - the cheese factor will probably go way up with this.

1) Like Jen - I can cook and do it well. I have made full course meals with 3 carrots, a couple of potatoes and an onion.

2) I'm generous to a fault. As in if you tell me you needed a shirt to wear and I only had one - the one I was wearing - I'd give it to you.

3) I am empathetic. Just look at the zoo I have living in my house, and that will tell you how empathetic I am. For those of you who don't know me - I have 6 cats, 1 dog, 1 guinea pig and a whole whack of fish. All of those (except the fish and guinea pig) are rescued animals.

4) I trust people. This can at times prove to be detrimental, however, I choose to give people the benefit of the doubt. If they screw me over, however...

5) I am a friend's friend. Yes, I have friends, but I *AM* a friend. I'm one of those people that is always there when you need them (I think) and I think it makes me a better person as a result.

**Mr. Gurnal - you are one HELL of a listener. For someone that can turn up at a bar in NC and have food with a whole bunch of girls and actually stay on top of the conversation? Pretty good listening skills there, my friend.

ooh, this is tricky. Okay, five things I like about myself.
1. I am very efficient in that I can do a bunch of things at once and reasonably well.
2. I think I'm a nice person. I like doing well by people and I usually give people the benefit of the doubt until they change my mind.
3. I've met very few dogs who didn't adore me, and you know what they say about animals being a good judge of character. :)
4. I have to go along with the theme here. I am a creative and fly by the seat of my pants cook, and can make quite a nice meal out of not much.
5. I think I'm very open minded and non-judgemental. If it makes you happy (within reason) it's good by me.
That was fun, Jen! Can't wait for next week. And thanks a million for the amazingly nice comments. Wow.My cheeks are red!

Jill...you are oh so gracious with your compliment. Also..there's no problem listening when the company is so great.

3 carrots, a couple of potatoes and an onion. Hmmmm.

Potato pancakes with onion (I didn't include any spices in my post, but freshly ground cumin and garlic and parsley)

Carrot soup (basically boiled carrots gone all mushy with water - since I can't drink milk) and spices to your taste

(Well - potentially a lie about the full course meal with those three things *it was quite possibly five things* but you get the gyst. Gotta be creative when on a hardcore budget!)

And taqdeer - who DOESN'T love Stuart Smalley?

The best SNL episode of Daily Affirmation was when he interviewed Michael Jordan. TOO FREAKING FUNNY!
